BIO: Laurie Tanguay, Owner of LoBo Designs
"The possibilities are endless with a computer and a bit of old-fashioned imagination. Although the end results are digitally rendered, my subjects are as natural and familiar as daily life. The computer allows me to express my ideas in a variety of ways - simple, natural colors or intricate patterns that are graphically enhanced. Often, the most important decision I make is when to stop playing and just finish the project."
With a background in the mechanical engineering field, Laurie has been working with computers since the mid-1970's designing mechanical components and printed circuit boards for a wide range of projects, from telescopes to submarines. She started her own design firm in 1982, developing products for 3-D solid modeling software and high-end graphic printers.
"Engineering, especially in a small company, is a highly creative environment. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with all aspects of a design project, from conceptual renderings to the manufacturing process. In time, these static images would be used to create marketing graphics, colorful advertisements and detailed field service guides. Eventually, videography and special effects were used in the design process. In the early 1990's, the Internet became an integral part of my work. This had a huge impact on my career . . . I was definitely born in the right century."
In 1997, Laurie established LoBo Designs, adding fine art reproduction, publishing design and photo restoration to her repertoire to encourage and promote the art community. Her work currently appears in publications, television, film and on the Internet. She frequently works on contract for a number of agencies as a consultant.
